This Maori Wahaika is proudly made in New Zealand from Tulip Wood, a sustainably harvested hardwood that is lightweight despite its toughness.

The name wahaika means 'mouth of the fish'. The wahaika was traditionally made from either whale bone or wood.

Wahaika were traditionally carved on the butt, with a human face embellished with native paua shell eyes, and a small human figure carved above the handle, as in this example of the wahaika.

This is a full size wahaika, measuring approximately 39cm (15 1/4') long.

Purchase it on its own, or on a carved stand.

ENGRAVING:
You can also have an engraved plaque attached to the stand, to give as a gift for a special occasion such as a 21st. Write up to 6 words in the engraving box (once you have selected that option).

Laser engraving into the wooden stand can also be done.

And you can also have up to 18 characters engraved into the stand in paua shell. Please note that it is 18 characters/letters only, and they must be in CAPITALS.
